We’re excited to welcome you to your new home on campus! Time to start planning and get ready to move in. Mark your calendar for student move-in during August 2026.
As you sign your housing contract, you will be able to select a specific time slot for a day and time to move-in from time slots available. To smooth your move and ease traffic around the halls, all move-in times will be determined by your pre-selected time slots only.
August 22-25: Early Move-In
From Saturday, August 22 to Tuesday, August 25, students participating in a program or activity pre-approved for early move-in may arrive to move in.
If you are part of a program that moves in early (for example, the U-M Marching Band or participating in Go Blue Orientation on August 25), please contact your program directly for move-in details. Students arriving early will need to select a move-in time on their designated move-in date. Early move-in timeslots will be released to those groups later in the summer.
Move-in Welcome Team
If you would like to assist with move-in for fall and be able to move-in during the weekend of August 22-23, you will be able to learn more details and sign-up after you sign your housing contract.
August 26-30: General Move-In
From Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30, students may move-in at a chosen date and time.
After you sign your housing contract, you will be able to select a specific time slot for a day and time to move-in from time slots available. To smooth your move and ease traffic around the halls, the number of students permitted to move-in at any building and time is capped. Students are not permitted to move-in prior to the start of their selected date and time..
Historically, Wednesday and Thursday of move-in week are the most popular move-in dates and Michigan Housing cannot accommodate all students who wish to arrive on these days. We encourage students and supporters to plan accordingly.
Wolverine Village Residents: to facilitate a successful move-in at U-M’s newest residence halls at Wolverine Village, residents of these five residence halls will also be able to move in on Monday, August 24 or Tuesday, August 25 without participating in a pre-approved early move-in program.
Move-in Day
- We recommend the use of Waze, a navigation app to assist you in navigating to Ann Arbor and around the campus. Note there are traffic detours in place during move in.
- Arrive during your assigned move in time slot and day for a smooth move-in experience.
- Staff will be ready to greet you, assist with directing traffic, and guide you to the check-in station for your hall.
- Display your unloading tag in your car window
Check-in
- You will need your Mcard or another form of picture identification at Check-in. If you have not received your Mcard yet, you will receive your Mcard at check-in. Moving carts are available to assist with move-in,
- If you are unexpectedly delayed and arrive late, follow the posted signs for after hours assistance.
After Check-in
- After unloading, please move vehicles away from the building to post check-in parking. (parking locations will be shared later this summer.) This allows space for others to unload.
- If your room requires any repairs, report them using the online FIXIT form. Residents are responsible for the condition of the space upon move-out so it is important to report any room issues to FIXIT. Visit the MHousing policies page for further information about what to expect regarding the condition of your living space at move-out.
- Begin unpacking and getting settled into your room. Enjoy a meal with your family at the dining, families can dine free with their student during move-in.
- We are happy to have you on campus and have a great semester. Go Blue!

Renter's Insurance
We recommend that you register and insure all of your personal belongings. First check if your belongings are covered by an existing homeowners policy. If not, consider purchasing an individual policy. One option is GradGuard™, a service provided by Next Generation Insurance Group, LLC. It’s a specific Renters Insurance Plan designed especially for students.
