Located within Wolverine Village, Dr. E. Royster Harper Hall is home to nearly 500 first-year and returning students. The hall offers a welcoming residential experience with shared spaces designed for studying, gathering and building community.
Residents also benefit from convenient access to dining, outdoor gathering areas and nearby athletic campus facilities.
The hall also features a library lounge with flexible spaces for both collaborative and independent study, including large shared tables and quieter window seating with natural light and outdoor views. Residents can also enjoy the jam room, a creative wellness space designed for music and relaxation.
Residence Hall Staff are available to support students, build community and help residents navigate campus life. Students can also get involved through Hall Council, Multicultural Council and the Residence Halls Association.
About the Name
E. Royster Harper Hall is the first building in Wolverine Village to receive a name. It honors E. Royster Harper, vice president emerita for student life, who has played a key role in expanding and renovating U-M’s residence hall system and helped institute measures that fostered inclusivity and student well-being.
Harper served as vice president for student life for 18 years before retiring in 2019 and worked at the university for more than four decades. It’s the first building on U-M’s campus to be named after a Black woman.

Community Center
Every residence hall has a Community Center that is the heart of the community. There, you’ll get a chance to meet other students, talk to resident advisors, and find out about events and activities planned for your community. Plus, the Community Center can help with logistics like room lock-outs, lost keycards and lost & found. A 24/7 mail and package center for the entire Wolverine Village community is located in Building 3.
