Fall 2024 Move-in FAQs

Fall move-in begins soon and we are here to answer your questions. Feel free to drop us a line via our Contact Us page or search the Housing website, or find the information you need from this list of Frequently Asked Questions about Move-In!

What are Public Health Requirements for Move-in?

The good news is that if you already have a Housing contract, you are in compliance with the university vaccination policy. For more information, see the University Vaccination Policy and the Health Response Website.

When can I plan to move into my hall?

After you sign your housing contract, you will be invited to select a move-in timeslot during one of the move-in days which extend from August 21-25. If your plans change, don’t worry – you can log back into the housing portal and change your move-in timeslot.

How do I sign up for the Welcome Team?

Visit the welcome team webpage for the most updated information.  You will have an opportunity to sign up for the welcome team when you complete your contract.

I can't bring everything, what items should I leave at home?

The University has a list of items not to bring to campus.  This includes humidifiers, candles, electric scooters and hoverboards.  Please visit this webpage the Community Living at Michigan guide (Section 3: Community Living Standards)  for further information.

Can helpers come into the hall to help me move in?

Absolutely! We welcome your family and friends to enjoy this special day with you.

Can I ship my belongings in advance of my move-in day?

Housing is able to receive packages starting Monday, August 26, 2024.

How do I find my building and where do we park?

A wayfind app is super useful — you probably already have one you like, and we find WAZE is quite accurate in navigating the UM campus.

What if I arrive late in the evening? Can I still move-in?

Yes! You’ll find instructions for “after hours move-in” on the door of your hall. We have staff on campus that can come to assist you.

Can I change my room assignment before move-in?

Right now we’re expecting our residence halls to be full, so we are not making changes before move-in.

After move-in, there is a room change process.

Where do I get my MCard?
