Graduate Housing Renewal Information

Are you ready to plan your living arrangements for the 2025-2026 year? There are a couple of options available to you:

Contract Renewal
Apartment/Room Change
Contract Termination/Ending

More information on these options follows below. Please complete your chosen option no later than March 11, 2025.

Apartments will be contracted to new applicants if renewal contracts are not submitted by March 11, 2025.

Contract reassignments, transfers, and sublets are not permitted. For more information, beginning in mid-January you may review the 2025-2026 Housing Terms and Conditions located on the Policies page.

Northwood Contract Renewal

The contract renewal period begins on February 18, 2025 and ends on March 11, 2025.

Northwood renewal contracts are for occupancy from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026.

You may renew your contract for your current apartment.

Contract Renewal Steps:

Check your University status to verify that it accurately reflects your status for the new contract period (student or non-student). If your status is or will change to non-student, you may not be eligible to renew your contract and we encourage you to [email protected] to inquire about your eligibility status.
Read the contract. You will be asked to confirm or add new household members.
Submit your contract renewal. Please note that when you click “I Agree” you are committing to a legally binding contract and will be required to honor the contract in full.
Starting February 18, 2025, visit your Michigan Housing portal to renew your contract.

Munger Graduate Residences Contract Renewal

The contract renewal period begins on February 18, 2025 and ends on March 11, 2025.

Munger renewal contracts are either: June 1, 2025 to May 23, 2026 or August 1, 2025 to July 23, 2026.

You may renew your contract for your current room. If you renew your contract, you may stay in your room for the contract gap days and your rent for that month will be billed at the full monthly rate.

A submitted renewal contract is legally binding.

Move from one Northwood apartment to another

You are encouraged to submit an apartment change request as soon as possible – it is not necessary to wait until the contract renewal is available. You are required to renew your contract in order to be eligible for an apartment change. An apartment change is not guaranteed.

1. Select “Room Changes” on the Michigan Housing Portal.
2. If an apartment matching your request becomes available, you will receive an apartment offer by email. Room changes are not typically offered during June-August.

Move from Northwood to Munger Graduate Residences

For more information, visit the Munger Graduate Residences page. Contracts begin on either June 1 or August 1. All residences come fully furnished. No furnishings can be removed.

Steps to take:

Email [email protected] from your @umich.edu email account and request an application for the Munger Graduate Residences by March 11, 2025.
We will send you a link to apply and details about the assignment process.

Move from Munger Graduate Residences to Northwood

Northwood I & II (Furnished)
Northwood IV & V (Unfurnished)

Steps to take:

Email [email protected] from your @umich.edu email account and request an application for Northwood Community Apartments by March 11, 2025.
We will send you a link to apply to the Northwood Community Apartments.

Leaving?

Moving out of the Northwood Community Apartments

Current contracts end on May 31, 2025. If you intend to move out on your contract end date, please let us know between February 18, 2025 and March 11, 2025.

Steps to take to confirm your departure at the end of your contract:

Beginning February 18, 2025, select “2025-2026 Housing Applications and Contracts” on the Michigan Housing Portal.

Once you submit the form, this date cannot be changed. We recommend that you confirm all moving arrangements, including movers and transportation before confirming your departure.

You may end your contract early. You may be subject to an 80% cancellation fee if you terminate your contract early. More information is available in Housing Terms and Conditions.

Steps to take to end your contract early:

Select “End Your Contract” on the Michigan Housing Portal.
Choose your exact move-out date. Once you submit the form, this date cannot be changed. We recommend that you confirm all moving arrangements, including movers and transportation before you submit your move-out date.

If the early contract termination fee is waived, rent will be prorated. If your vacate date falls between the 1st through the 15th of the month, rent will be prorated through the 15th. If you vacate after the 15th, rent will not be prorated and you will be billed for the full month. We do not prorate rent by the day.

Moving out of Munger Graduate Residences

Current contracts end May 23, 2025 or July 23, 2025. If you intend to move out on your contract end date, please let us know between February 18, 2025 and March 11, 2025.

Steps to take to confirm your departure at the end of your contract:
