Individual residents, resident groups and departments with a living/learning affiliation may host functions in various spaces in the residence halls. It is expected that the hosted function is for the students who live in that community, is exclusive to housing residents of other Michigan Housing communities or is for those students participating in a particular living/learning program. Reservations should be made at least five full business days in advance of the date of the proposed event. Submitting a request does not guarantee that the event will be approved.
Policies and Procedures
Residents or Living/Learning programs should have a conversation with the Leadership Team of the building to discuss, among other things, usage, timing of the event, means of promotion, the use of amplified sound, quiet hour considerations, size of event and appropriate building access.
The person reserving a space is assumed to be the host of the event and is expected to be on site during the length of the event. The host will be identified in the application form.
For safety reasons, non-residents must be personally invited and escorted by a resident at all times.
Regularly scheduled events (e.g., weekly meetings) are not permitted in order that the space is available to meet the needs of all residents in the community.
Mass public invitations to events are not permitted.
Housing personnel will remove any materials that promote the use of alcohol or other drugs or that discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, disability, or veteran status.
Financial transactions are prohibited. Only charitable item donations (coats, toys, non-perishable food, etc.) may be collected as a condition of entry to an event.
All Community Living at Michigan (CLAM) standards apply to space use and activity
