Table Use Guidelines and Online Application

Updated Oct. 17, 2024

Michigan Housing provides an opportunity for registered student organizations and U-M departments to provide information about their organization or department through tabling events. Door-to-door canvassing and posting of flyers beyond residents individual room doors is prohibited. We deem M-Housing residential communities as the home to those who live with us and we limit tabling to designated areas.

Registered student organizations and departments are able to apply for a table at designated time and location in Michigan Housing. The intent of tabling is to provide the means to share information with the residents in Michigan Housing communities while also providing the resident an opportunity to ask questions. Hall Councils and students living in M Housing have first priority for reserving designated spaces  based on availability. An application is required, and applications should be submitted at least two weeks before the desired dates.

Note that tabling is not permitted during Move-In, the first and last two weeks of any term/semester.

Requests are typically approved for a maximum of two days per week over the course of a two-week period per tabling location (see Designated Tabling Locations below for more information). Tabling is limited between the hours of noon and 8:00 pm. Pending an individual community’s previously scheduled use, availability may be limited.

Policies

Participants must remain at the table for the duration of the tabling event. If they leave to approach students, they will be asked to leave the building. Participants are expected to adhere to Michigan Housing Policies.

Solicitation activities, including but not limited to payment for the sale of merchandise is prohibited in Michigan Housing.

Requesting residents to participate in surveying and/or research projects is only permitted with prior approval from M Housing.

Door-to-door canvassing and posting of flyers is prohibited.

This policy is in addition to the University of Michigan Guidelines for Posting Flyers, Posters, and Other Related Items on University Property.

Distribution of food and beverage products must adhere to student organization or department policies and align with M Housing expectations that groups use M Dining as the first option for food and beverages they provide. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at [email protected].
