UNDERGRADUATE FALL CLOSING AND MOVE-OUT

UNDERGRADUATE RESIDENCE HALL CLOSING FALL 2024

Michigan Housing staff wish you the best as you finish your academics for fall term. The undergraduate residence halls will be closed starting at 7pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024  and will reopen on January 5, 2025 at 12pm. Students are required to vacate their rooms, but may leave their belongings if they are returning to the same room in January. 

  • Take valuable items with you. Student MCard access to the residence halls will pause on Wednesday, December 18, 2024

Health & Safety Inspections:

Michigan Housing Staff will enter your room for a safety and security check after the building closes. 

 

Student actions to take:

  1. Close and lock the windows and close any curtains. 
  2. Remove all perishables, trash and recyclables from your room.
  3. Turn off all lights. 
  4. If you are able, adjust the heater in your room to a lower setting. (65 degrees or standby)
  5. Unplug all electrical appliances, including power strips and extension cords.   
  6. Refrigerators should be emptied and cleaned.  Leave your refrigerator plugged in.
  7. Complete the Winter Break Departure Form
  8. Completely close and secure the door to your room.

If you are not returning to Michigan Housing for winter semester:

If you are not returning to Michigan Housing for winter term and wish to cancel your contract before its end date, you can inform Michigan Housing through the Housing business portal. Please note that a termination fee may apply.  More details are available in the Housing Terms & Conditions

All residents who are permanently departing campus and do not have a Winter Term 2025 contract must fully check out of the building. 

To check out, residents need to complete the following steps: 

  1. Prepare room as listed above
  2. Remove all belongings from your room.
  3. Return all room keys, temporary access cards, mail keys, and Housing parking passes to the Community Center.
  4. Contact the U-M Logistics, Transportation and Parking Department with questions about a University parking permit.
  5.  If you have a rental refrigerator, empty, clean and defrost it before unplugging the unit and call College Products to cancel your rental contract.
  6. Turn in your room key at the community center. There is a after hours box if the center is closed.

To report a facility concern, including windows or doors that will not lock, or a heating concern, contact the Facilities Service Center (FSC) at 734-647-2059 or visit the Fixit page on the Michigan Housing website.

U.S. Mail, Packages & Newspapers:

  • Remember to change your mailing address with any publications and shopping sites.
  • Change your address in Wolverine Access.
  • Residential buildings are unable to accept deliveries beginning Friday, December 15 at 12:00PM until Monday, January 8  at 9:00AM. 

MDining

Dining halls will continue with their regular schedule through December 18th.   The last meal served is dinner on December 18th. Visit the MDining website for details.

Term Break Housing

Students need to make alternative housing arrangements during the time period that the halls are closed since students may not access their assigned rooms.

At this time the University does not have additional on campus housing available during winter break.  Please refer to the term break housing information for local hotel information. 

 

Community Center Hours 

The last day of operations for the Community Center for Fall Semester is Wednesday, December 18th  (9:00AM-7:00PM).
