International Student Experience

Coming to the University of Michigan can be a significant transition, and coming to a new country means adjusting to a whole new culture. We understand that, as an international student, you have unique needs and we will do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible during your time at Michigan.

Choosing to live on-campus as an international student can provide many advantages, including:

  • professional live-in staff members who can answer your questions and help you locate on campus resources;
  • close proximity to classes, meeting places on campus, and the bus route; and
  • the opportunity to live and develop relationships with other students.

In addition, you can elect to develop leadership skills by serving on your residence hall’s Multicultural Council and later, applying to be a Resident Advisor, Diversity Peer Educator, or a Peer Academic Success Specialist. For more information about adjusting to life in the United States, please visit the university’s International Center.
