10 Things You Should Know About Living In A Residence Hall

  1. A member of the Housing Leadership Team is always on call for every residence hall - every day of the year! LT staff can assist in emergencies, answer questions and refer you to appropriate resources on campus.
  2. Your MCard is a multipurpose swipe card. It not only grants access to the residence halls but can also be used to purchase meals or load money – very handy for doing laundry and making snack purchases.
  3. The Community Center in each hall is a hub of information and activity; not simply a place to pick up mail and get keys. Games, movies and supplies like kitchenware are available for check-out.
  4. Bulletin boards are not the only way of conveying information in the residence halls. Each building has digital screens that advertise local events and publish news. Contact your building’s Community Center Manager to add your Scholar in Residence event!
  5. Even though we provide room and board, residence halls do not function like a hotel. Our facilities staff are available to clean your space if requested but will not offer turn down service.
  6. If it’s broke, let us fix it! We have maintanence staff that respond to FIXIT(online FIXIT system.)
  7. Not sure what’s for dinner? Housing publishes the menus of all campus dining halls online.
  8. Between the 18 different Residence Halls, downtown Ann Arbor and the myriad of libraries and museums on campus, getting around is a breeze with the Blue U-M busses. You can also ride Ann Arbor city busses for free. Just show your MCard.
  9. Did you know Madonna once slept here? Many famous and influential figures have attended the University of Michigan.
  10. Housing at the University of Michigan uses a Community Development Model for events and programs. That means residential staff assess the needs of the community and then offer appropriate programs. We encourage you to actively participate in our programs by attending an event and interacting with residents!
