Eligibility for Undergraduate Housing ResEd Student Staff Members

Undergraduate ResStaff Applicants

  • A cumulative GPA of 2.5 without rounding is required. Candidates who fail to meet the minimum GPA requirement will not be eligible to continue in the selection process. New hires who fail to meet this requirement at the end of Winter Term will no longer be eligible for a staff position. Incoming transfer students will be asked to present their transcripts from previously attended institutions.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify the ResEd Student Staff Selection team at resed-sss@umich.edu regarding any special circumstances (e.g. incompletes, grade changes, etc.) that may influence your cumulative GPA.

  • ResEd Student Staff members are expected to maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher throughout their employment, each term and cumulatively. Courses selected as pass/fail or credit/no credit will be counted only toward meeting the 24 credit hour requirements; they will have no impact on GPA.

  • Completion of 2 semesters (Fall and Winter) semesters by the end of Winter 2019

    • Please review MLC position descriptions as semester requirements may defer.

  • The Residential College will be consulted for confirmation of academic good standing for all Residential College applicants.

  • Housing Student Conflict Resolution, Housing Student Employment Work Record, University Records, and Office of Student Conflict Resolution records will be checked to determine if an applicant is eligible to be hired for a staff position. Final position offers are contingent upon verification of Criminal Records Check.

  • ResEd Student Staff appointments are for 1 academic year. Students who desire to return for subsequent years are required to participate in an application, interview, and evaluation process annually.

  • Candidates must successfully complete ALA 421 either prior to or concurrently to their start date. Candidates selected after Winter 2019 must complete ALA 421 during the Winter 2020 semester.

  • ResEd Student Staff in Undergraduate Housing must be pursuing an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, and be able to commit to the full academic year - both fall and winter terms.

  • You must be available to attend all of training. Training is required as it covers critical topics relevant to your role and the support of our students. It is also an important time to forge relationships with your fellow staff members and your supervisors. Training begins no sooner than August 14, 2019. Training start date may vary based on positions. Specific dates will be provided during Winter semester.

  • If you applied during the Fall 2018 semester for a 2019-2020 ResStaff position and were not offered a position, you may not apply again until the Fall 2019 semester for a 2020-2021 ResStaff position. We are unable to make exceptions to this requirement even if the application reopens.
