Your Contract is the basic document that states legal obligations between You and the University. This electronic document, Community Living at Michigan Northwood I, II, IV and V is a legally binding adjunct which is incorporated into Your Contract. You are equally responsible for complying with the rules, policies and regulations contained here as You are for those directly printed on the document. Throughout this document, “You” and “Your” means the individual signing the Contract and legally bound to its terms and condition. “Apartment” means all space identified by the address including storage space specifically connected to the address. Northwood Community Apartments Statement of Purpose University Housing takes pride in being a learning-centered residential environment that houses and services students, staff, families, and the campus community in an effort to make a University of Michigan education more widely accessible. We are committed to providing comprehensive support services in an attentive, efficient, and caring manner. Residents can expect to find a comfortable, safe and welcoming community as well as educational, social, and recreational opportunities that foster quality life experiences. As a highly multicultural and international population within an academic environment, we embrace and celebrate our diversity, promote cross-cultural sharing, and encourage understanding of varying lifestyles. The following priorities guide the work and activities of Northwood Community Apartments: Providing reasonably priced housing as well as community programs and outreach. Maintaining a supportive neighborhood environment that promotes healthy individuals and families. Supporting residents in their needs for information, skills, resources, and interpersonal connections that will facilitate ongoing growth and development. Encouraging respect for the interest and rights of individuals along with a sense of personal responsibility for the requirements of cooperative community living. Pursuing partnership with University departments and community agencies that will enhance the facilities, services and learning opportunities for residents. Managing facilities and assets in a fiscally responsible manner with attention to the needs of current and future residents. These regulations, the Community Living Standards (CLS), as described in Community Living at Michigan, reflect this perspective, with a strong leaning towards educational outcomes in instances where policies are violated. Our preferred approach to developing responsible behavior by and among residents is through advising, counseling and positive examples. Where these approaches are not successful or are not appropriate, the discipline and judicial processes described in Community Living at Michigan are designed to enforce adherence to our rules and community standards and to protect the interests of individuals who are being injured or victimized as well as the interests of the community at large. Disciplinary situations are handled on a case-by-case basis. Given the individual nature of each situation, there is no set list of mandatory sanctions attached to specific violations. Community Living at Michigan specifies the community and behavioral standards
expected in University apartments. It also identifies what you can expect
from University Housing in terms of your rights and prerogatives as a
resident. |
