Resources
The
comprehensive and convenient services provided through Northwood Community
Apartments contribute to making your apartment or town house a home. We
seek to address the social, educational, and recreational needs of the
diverse population through these many community services:
Public
Schooling
All Northwood Community Apartment residences are located within the Ann
Arbor Public Schools district. School-age children living here are transported
by school bus to the excellent public schools in the local area. Public
School assignments are designated by the apartment
address.
You may contact
the Ann Arbor Public Schools at 2555 South State Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48106,
(734) 994-2200, or at the Ann
Arbor Public Schools web site.
North
Campus Family Health Services
Conveniently
located in the Northwood II area , North Campus Family Health Services
(NCFHS) provides a full range of primary health care services for Northwood
residents. Operated by faculty from the University of Michigan School
of Nursing, NCFHS is staffed by professional nurse practitioners and nursing
students. It provides comprehensive health exams for men and women, well-child
care for infants and children (including immunizations and developmental
assessments), and well-woman care services (including gynecological exams
and birth control provision). Assessments and prescriptions are also offered
for minor acute illnesses such as back and joint pain, colds and flu,
ear infections, and minor injuries. Health education classes are also
offered periodically on such topics as childbirth preparation, baby care,
breastfeeding, and CPR and first aid. The federal Women, Infants, and
Children program, which provides free food coupons to low-income families,
is also available through NCFHS.
Most services and
classes are offered by Family Health Services for small or reduced fees,
and health insurance including M-CARE/GradCare, Medicaid, and Chickering
is accepted. NCFHS is an MCARE PCP site. Call NCFHS to find out what other
insurance plans are accepted.

Counseling
and Psychological Services (CAPS)
The University's
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), provides confidential counseling,
guidance, and information to individuals, couples, and families. Services
are free to enrolled students and their spouses or domestic partners.
CAPS recognize that the experiences of students and their families can
be stressed by the demands of University life; handling the very human
issues that we all find ourselves facing at times may require the help
of a qualified professional. Workshops on such issues as stress management,
marital and couples enrichment, and parenting are offered throughout the
year and have been designed to meet the unique needs of student families
residing in Northwood Community Apartments. Free child care is provided
when possible. Specialized family services are available upon request,
and home visits can be arranged. Telephone consultation is also offered.
