Observance Meal Accommodations
Meal plan credits are offered to those students whose religious observance requires a special diet during holidays. Application forms will be activated approximately one month prior to the start of each holiday.
Ramadan Options
- Muslim students with meal plans who wish to observe Ramadan may choose to cancel lunches and/or dinners for the duration of Ramadan. $5.95 credit for each lunch and a $7.85 credit for each dinner will be applied to the student’s Dining Dollars meal plan account. If a student later needs a meal that has been cancelled, Dining Dollars may be used at any dining hall or residential café. To take advantage of the Ramadan meal credits program, please complete an application.
- Meals-To-Go (available through any residential dining hall with 24 hours advance notice) may also be helpful during Ramadan. (See form)
- The Muslim Community Association (2301 Plymouth Road) provides free dinner to Muslim students every night during Ramadan. For more information, contact them at 734-665-6675.
- If you need additional information, contact Residential Dining Services or the Mcard office, (734) 763-4632 .
Passover Options
- Each residential dining hall provides a variety of Passover foods such as matzo, gefilte fish, charoset, hardboiled eggs and Passover desserts. (Please note that University Housing does not maintain kosher kitchens. For more details, students should contact the supervisor or chef at their dining location.)
- Students with meal plans who elect not to dine in the residence halls for Passover may choose to cancel lunches and/or dinners during the Passover holiday. Partial credit for these meals will be applied to the student’s Dining Dollars meal plan account. To take advantage of the Passover meal credits, please complete an application a minimum of two weeks in advance of the Passover holiday.
- The Hillel Foundation serves kosher-for-Passover lunches and dinners during the entire holiday as well as two Seder meals. To learn more about pricing or reservations, contact Hillel at 734-769-0500 or visit them online at www.umhillel.org.

- If you need additional information, contact Residential Dining Services or the Mcard office.
Kosher Meal Plan
University Housing partners with the Hillel Foundation to offer students a Kosher meal plan option. Students can transfer a 150 Block meal plan to Hillel at the same price. This Kosher meal plan cannot be used at residential dining halls except during Thanksgiving recess and Spring Break, when Hillel does not serve meals. For students who want to eat an occasional meal there, Hillel accepts Blue Bucks.
