PASSOVER
BOARD TERMINATION
This year (2008) Passover will be observed from sundown (dinner) April 19th and through April 27th.
Students with Entrée Meal Plans who wish to observe Passover may pursue the following options:
University Housing Dining Halls: While the Residence Halls do not maintain kosher kitchens, it is the policy of dining services to make available certain Passover foods. At all meals during Passover each hall provides matzo, gefilte fish, chicken soup with matzo balls, charoset, hard boiled eggs, and Passover desserts. In addition, ingredients are available for students to make their own matzo pizza. Where possible, dining services will also make available entrée items that do not include products prohibited for use during Passover. These items are labeled (P). This year certain foods, including matzo, gefilte fish, and horseradish that are served directly from the container to preserve their kosher status will be marked (KP). If students are unsure whether or not items are acceptable for Passover they may ask the supervisor or chef at the dining location.
Students holding meal plans who are not able to eat at Residence Hall Dining locations have the following options available:
- The Hillel Foundation, 1429 Hill Street, will serve two Seder meals. Students wishing to attend one, or both Seders at Hillel should make reservations directly with Hillel at 734-769-0500. Reservations for Passover 2008 must be made by March 30th. Entrée board may be applied for dining at Hillel. Please note that Hillel meals are priced higher than Housing’s and that students are charged the difference. Space is limited so please make your reservations as soon as possible. In addition, Hillel serves kosher–for-Passover lunches and dinners during the entire Passover holiday. Pre-paid reservations are required for these meals, also on or before March 30th. For more information go to www.umhillel.org.
- Home Hospitality for Seders is a program also administered by Hillel. We recognize that Passover is a time to be with family. If you cannot be with your own family for the Seder, Hillel can match you up with an Ann Arbor family to share the Seder meal. Call Hillel (769-0500) to request home hospitality and they will match you with a local family.
- Chabad House Student Center, 715 Hill Street, will also serve meals throughout Passover. There is a charge for these meals. Reservations will be taken until Passover. For further information contact Chabad House at 734-995-3276.
Students who do NOT wish to eat at the Residence Halls OR Hillel may apply for a board rebate for Passover by completing the Passover Board Termination form below. Students may request a rebate for one meal daily (either lunch or dinner), or for both meals, and will receive a 70% rebate for the meals selected. The rebate will be applied to an Entrée Plus of UM Student Account.
