Nutrition Services
Food has the ability to connect us to our best selves, each other and our environment. Choosing what food to eat can be one of the most enjoyable decisions we make everyday. What we eat affects our health, our ability to learn, work and play at our best, and how long we live. Here at the University of Michigan, we believe that establishing positive relationships with food and with our bodies is an important part of learning. We are proud to help build nutrition knowledge and increase awareness about food's role in achieving success in every goal. We offer:

  • Healthy eating seminars.
  • Free individual nutrition consultation.
  • Support for managing food allergies and special diets.
  • Nutrition publications in each dining room.
  • MSmart Healthy Dining Program to identify the healthier choices.
  • Nutrition Information Centers
  • Confidential e-mail address for nutrition concerns: eatsmart@umich.edu.
  • Coordination of eating issues awareness activities with University Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), and the Residence Hall Association.
  • Promotion of environmentally sustainable eating habits and food choices.

Vegetarians and Vegans
We respect our customer's dietary preferences and strive to meet their individual needs. Our vegan selections do not contain any animal products or by-products. Vegetarian dishes may contain dairy and/or egg products. All of our vegan items are labeled "VN" or "Vegan", while the vegetarian items are labeled "VGT" or "Vegetarian" in the title. A majority of the vegan and vegetarian foods are found on the salad bar and on the World Harvest Bar . Vegetarian and/or vegan soups are offered daily. Main dish offerings on the entree service line always include a vegetarian item and often a vegan item. Vegan entree are available at East Quad. Vegetarians should be aware that our fryers are used for both meat and vegetable products.
